beatles japan 1966
Excerpt from the revealed video of The Beatles’ visit to Japan in 1966.
In the pictures John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison and Ringo Starr can be seen getting off the plane smilingdressed in kimonos, and then play in front of a crazed crowd at the Nippon Budokan hall in Tokyo. These files, however, have a curious detail: apart from the faces of the members of The Beatlesthe faces of the other people filmed are blurred, for reasons of respect for privacyas reported by AFP.
During years, the question of the image rights of these recorded people was a stumbling block among Japanese fans of the legendary British group and the defenders of the right to information and the local police. Fans turned to the Supreme Court of Japan to try to authorize an uncensored version.

They claimed that it was a “historical document“and considering it absurd to want to blur the faces recorded more than 50 years ago, almost impossible to identify today, according to them. But the court rejected these arguments in 2018 and the police proposal to make the document public with blurred faces was finally prevailed.
