Journalist: What expectations do you have for the summer of 2023? What does the city offer during the season?
Santiago Diaz Velez: In the last summer season we had 390,000 people. For the 2023 season, we expect an increase of 15%, which means about 450,000 people. The slogan of the campaign for this summer 2023 is: “Change the air”, because we want to highlight the importance of taking a moment, slowing down, taking a breath, inhaling something good and exhaling “that” that is left over or weighs us down… that this concept remains in the minds of tourists. And, in this way, they can live the experience of enjoying Bariloche in the spirit of relaxing, resting and above all, having a unique and different experience. Regarding visitors, we expect 85% to be nationals and, from neighboring countries, 7% from Chile and 5% from Brazil, the rest from other parts of the world.
Q.: What are the new connections you have with other provinces? And with the outside? How do they benefit from these deals?
SDV: Bariloche is a destination that grows more every year, also in terms of connectivity. Within Argentina and with other countries. We have internal flights that connect Bariloche with Buenos Aires, Córdoba, Mendoza, Rosario, Calafate, Salta and Tucumán. We have a weekly direct flight with São Paulo, Brazil, and, starting in December, we will have three weekly flights with Santiago de Chile, via Sky Airlines. These last two, the intention is that they remain active throughout the year and, in high seasons, increase their frequency due to demand.
Q.: What highlights the Andean crossing? What is your route? When will this excursion be possible?
SDV: We are very happy to resume the Andean Crossing. Since September we resume this binational crossing that joins Argentina and Chile through the Lakes. The Andean Crossing is the mythical route through the Patagonian Andean lakes, which connects Bariloche in Argentina with Puerto Varas in Chile, along which the native Huilliches and Mapuches traveled more than four centuries ago. It is a combination of 3 navigations and 4 sections by bus. The tour can start both in Bariloche and in Puerto Varas and it is a unique experience to cross the mountain range in this way enjoying unique landscapes of lakes, rivers, mountains, volcanoes and the particular Valdivian jungle.
FAEVYT Congress
Bariloche will host the next Congress of the Argentine Federation of Travel and Tourism Business Associations (FAEVYT), with dates from May 4 to 6, 2023. We are preparing to receive more than 1,800 professionals from the country’s tourism industry. It will be a new opportunity for travel agents to learn about Bariloche’s tourist offer and services.
EXPO 2027
Bariloche is nominated as the venue for Expo 2027, organized by the BIE, along with Phuket (Thailand), Minnesota (United States), Belgrade (Serbia) and Malaga (Spain). With the motto of “Nature + Technology”, our city proposes that the Expo be the scene of the debate on the use of technologies to protect the environment. This candidacy could generate a great revolution in cultural, educational and scientific matters for the entire region of Patagonia. It would also be a milestone for Latin America, since it would be the first Expo organized in a country in the region.
