Toni Kroos is giving up his career with the national soccer team. The 31-year-old announced this via Instagram.
Professional soccer player Toni Kroos (31) ends his career with the German national soccer team. “I’ve played for Germany 106 times. There won’t be another time,” writes the 31-year-old. This was the European Championship round of 16, which Germany lost 2-0 to England at Wembley, his last international match.
The farewell was “clear for a long time”
“It had been clear to me for a long time that I would not be available for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar,” the 31-year-old explains. He wants to concentrate fully on his goals at Real Madrid in the next few years.
But personal reasons also led to this decision: “In addition, as a husband and dad, I would also like to be there for my wife and my three children.” In the post, Kroos thanks his fans, supporters and critics “for their extra motivation”. The soccer player would like to express his special thanks to ex-national coach Joachim Löw (61): “He made me a national player and world champion. He trusted me.”
Toni Kroos has played in the national team since 2010. His greatest success with the DFB-Elf was winning the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.
