The poster, which was hung on the facade of the museum on Wednesday, had the phrase “Occupy the streets with your decision and your beauty,” written by Ananké Asseff. It was part of a participatory performance that would take place within the framework of the launch of a new edition of the Documentary Photography Biennial that takes place until this Saturday in different parts of the Tucuman capital.
However, shortly after it was placed, a group of people cut it with scissors and tried to set it on fire. “The Historic House represents all Argentines, it is the house where Independence was declared and they cannot cover it with a garbage rag,” said a man while ripping up the sign, as seen in a video filmed by the newspaper La Gaceta de Tucumán and spread through their social networks.
“This is an insult to the people of Tucuman, to the Argentine Republic, to values; it bothers me that everything our heroes fought for is thrown away by these shitty people,” added the author of the vandal episode without revealing his name. .
For his part, Asseff explained that the phrase on the flag had a pacifist and tolerance message and invited “to unity, to non-violence and to bring out the best in each person at a time of extreme division.”
The actions carried out by this group constitute a “way of reparation to the symbol of the exercise of freedoms in the House of Independence. Independence is just broad and contains us all”, said Pantoja during the performance.
Meanwhile, Pantoja considered the repair they made “a way of disputing these spaces that are so important for all of society, these people capable of carrying out acts and spreading hate speech.”
