How to take care of padding before storing it

“We must anticipate the cleaning and storage of the padding, since it is not the same one that we use during the summer, so we must ensure that we have adequate storage, in order to take advantage of it next year”comment armen karapetian founder of Duvet Home.

One of the first steps is to remove the padding from the bed and shake it outside to remove pet hair and other debris. And if you can, it is good to lay it on a rope and hit it from both sides to finish the shaking.

Now it’s ready to be washed, but first keep in mind that while duvets and comforters are considered bedding, they don’t need to be washed as often as sheets and pillowcases. That’s why washing it once or twice a year is enough. That is, for the changes of season.

how to wash it

The quick and easy option is the dry cleaner. If the padding has lost its label or never had one, you can tell whoever receives it what material it is made of and what the padding is.

The other option is to do it at home with our friend the washing machine. But do not forget to know the capacity of your equipment, it may not support the size of your padding. And remember not to mix it with other clothes.

Before putting it to wash make sure that the padding does not have any cuts, this way you will avoid losing padding in the wash. You can put it in the washing machine using mild soap, the delicate clothes program and always with cold water.

how to dry it

The ideal is to leave it to dry in the open air but without the sun hitting it directly so that it does not get ruined. Before hanging it, you can shake it a little so that it does not clump and it is very fluffy.

before saving it

You have to make sure that it is very dry because if it gets to have some moisture inside, it can ruin the fabric and generate bad odors. For this same reason, do not spray it with perfume either, so that there is no liquid left inside the storage place.

When it is completely dry, we fold it neatly in equal parts and store it with a cloth bag and some lavender flowers inside, to protect it from moths naturally. Laurel or mothballs can also be used, although the former is less effective and the latter leave an undesirable odor on the clothes and whites we keep.

To prevent it from being in contact with bugs, external odors and humidity from the environment, it is best to store it in vacuum bags. They can be found in any bazaar and they are super easy to close, you only need a vacuum cleaner and voila, it is more protected.
