Kaiser-Mühlecker remains in the book prize race

The five authors with their novels for the Austrian Book Prize 2022 have been shortlisted: Helena Adler (“Fretten”), Anna Kim (“Story of a Child”), Verena Roßbacher (“Mon Chéri and our demolished souls” have made it. ), Robert Menasse (“The Extension”) and the Eberstalzell writer Reinhard Kaiser-Mühlecker (“Poacher”) made it into the final round. 2500 euros are each safe for the named. The winner of the EUR 20,000 prize will be announced on November 21 before the start of Buch Wien (November 23 to 27). Last year Raphaela Edelbauer won with “DAVE”.

From the long list, Monika Helfer, Teresa Präauer, Thomas Stangl, Iris Blauensteiner and Markus Grundtner were the last stop. However, the two language arts students at the University of Applied Arts in Vienna Lena-Marie Biertimpel (born 1991 in Hamburg) and Sirka Elpass (born 1995 in Oberhausen) are still in the running for the debut prize, which is endowed with 10,000 euros – just like the 1992-born and Anna Maria Stadler living in Salzburg.

The book prize is organized by the Ministry of Culture, the Main Association of the Austrian Book Trade and the Vienna Chamber of Labor and is being awarded for the seventh time this year.
