As the band told Dutch radio station NPO 3FM in a new interview, the connections between the albums are more obvious to the band than they may be to fans.
“There is a path that goes from the first album to this one,” explained the drummer. matt helders. “It might not be obvious and clear to everyone at first, but for us, it definitely has a bit of that. And it has another extension than what we did last time, but there is definitely a difference.”
Alex Turner added: “I think it seems possible to me that, when you look back after a period of time has passed, you will notice more than just the sound of each record [es] sort of bleed into the next more than you think.”
“I think it’s definitely a continuation of the last one, but it feels a little more open or something.”
In the same interview, the band reflected on the long process of creating the new album. “It took us a lot longer to get to the end point on this one than any of the others”Turner said. “I guess because we had a little more time.” Helders added: “We were probably more spread out as well.”
Turner continued: “Maybe the more you let it go, the more you want to allow yourself to make adjustments. Maybe all of that got a little silly in the end in that sense…Surprisingly, I don’t know if I’ve ever heard this record in a car.”
Arctic Monkeys will be presenting in Argentina on November 13 within the framework of the festival Spring Sound.
