About a very strange couple

The Linz basement theater is entering its 65th season with a real comedy classic. Neil Simon’s “A Strange Couple”, starring Walther Matthau and Jack Lemmon, achieved fame and glory in the genre cosmos in 1967. “We hope that after three years we can play through a full season again,” says theater manager and actor of “Oskar”, Wolfgang Ortner.

In other words, around 100 performances are planned in the 88-seat gem of a theater on the main square in Linz. For comparison, the last production to date, “Ein affair too much”, could only be played 47 times due to the pandemic. “Thanks to the Corona aid, we still exist,” says Ortner.

Directed again by John F. Kutil, he updated the comedy in terms of timing and gave it a smart Linz touch. Harald Bodingbauer created the stage design. Peter Woy plays the role of Felix Ungar, Oskar’s fellow sufferer in terms of lost love. The role of Erwin is given by another member of the Ortner theater family, Maximilian. He is currently engaged in Komödie am Kurfürstendamm in Berlin. The premiere is on October 27, 7:30 p.m., game days are Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays. (at)
