With the new decade underway, the Royal Family faces possibly their biggest challenge to date, as people openly question their role in 1990s Britain.
This turbulent decade for the Royal Family has been well documented and interpreted by journalists, biographers and historians. As it explains elizabeth debickiwho plays Princess Diana, “That’s the most exciting thing about portraying those people during that time, because going through all the seasons of The Crown, this is the most visual content we have of the Royal Family. In the 90s everything started to be filmed, and it was also the birth of the 24-hour news cycle, so we have access to an incredible amount of content.”

This is the latest generational cast change. Dominic West (Prince Charles) believes “That people will understand, since the series has changed actors every two seasons; it’s about evoking those characters,” he says.

On the other hand, Imelda Staunton (Queen Elizabeth II) hopes that, like her character, she manages to fulfill her duty to the public from her role: “Which has been nice, and I hope to show that they are not wrong, because there are people saying: ‘I really want to to see her as the Queen’, so let’s hope they like it because I can’t do anything about it anymore.
