In the rehearsal rooms of the local choirs and brass bands as well as in the music schools, there is currently a dominant theme. The question is: How can we arrange the Poxrucker Sisters’ summer hit “Sie” in such a way that at the end a private concert in our own rehearsal room or classroom with the trio of musicians looks out? Everything is allowed in the videos (30 to 90 seconds) musically, but ultimately it’s about the most unusual interpretation of this musical homage to women.
Women with men’s instruments
Stefanie, Christina and Magdalena Poxrucker were supported in their hit number by the women’s brass quintet “Brassessoires”. Trombonist Katharina Obereder co-founded what was then the first all-female brass ensemble in 2011. When the “Poxis” approached them to “burn” “you”, the quintet was there immediately, says the native of Sigharting. Firstly, because the brassessoires felt it was an honour, and secondly, because brass players have a lot to tell in this often male-dominated register. Katharina Obereder: “When we started ten years ago, we were really something special. Many were skeptical before the concerts and were quite surprised afterwards.”
Songs like “Sie”, which transport an enlightened image of women, are “unfortunately still necessary today for the trombonist. For example, when you listen to the lyrics of these Ballermann songs.”
