All the faces of Luján: religious, historical and cultural center

LUJÁN, the validity of a HISTORICAL, RELIGIOUS and CULTURAL center

The Basilica

Place of veneration since in 1630 the image of the Virgin Mary, who traveled from Pernambuco (Brazil) to Sumampa (Santiago del Estero), miraculously determined to stay in this place, is one of the must-sees of a visit to Luján.

Mario, one of the fathers of the Basilica, defines it as “the spiritual heart of the country”. “It is the capital of faith, here is the mother of all Argentines,” he said. Visitors come from all over the world and every weekend more than 500 baptisms take place on average. People get to know the historic center to thank or enjoy a good meal. At that point, Carlos Keen is one of the preferred sites.

Carlos Ken

Carlos Keen presents a typical village landscape and buildings from the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries in excellent condition, many of which have been converted into restaurants. Its gastronomic offer is completed with more than twenty establishments, among which La Sastrería stands out and its outstanding menu with exquisite starters, pastas and the inevitable roast.

After eating, it is advisable to take a tour of the old train station, where the Rural Museum, the Craft Fair and the Cultural and Tourist Center operate.

El Timon Yacht Club

Historic club in the town of Jáuregui, birthplace of the mythical Algodonera Flandria, El Timón is a reference for residents thanks to its rich history in water sports.

Today, in addition to enjoying the river, you can practice rowing and canoeing, archery, athletics, hockey, soccer, basketball, tennis, volleyball, ping pong, paddle tennis and karate.

Agroecological garden Ek Ong Kar

“The non-use of agrochemicals is the main difference, but agroecology is also about respecting those who produce and the plants,” said Manu, coordinator of the garden.

In a natural environment on the outskirts of Luján, Ek Ong Kar nourishes residents and visitors with all the seasonal products.
