The US documentary “Dark Side of the Ring” has been dealing with the dark side of the wrestling circus since 2019. The most recent episode, on September 16, was dedicated to an incident that went down in WWE history as “The Plane Ride from Hell.” On the return flight to the USA after an event in London in May 2002, the wrestlers on board did not only experience fights and excessive alcohol and drugs. Ric Flair is also said to have sexually molested two stewardesses.
As Heidi Doyle, one of the flight attendants concerned, said in the documentary, Flair came into the galley during the flight. He had nothing on except the famous red robe he always wore in the ring. As Doyle now reported, the wrestler then opened his robe and whirled his penis through the air. He took her hand and placed it on his genitals. In 2004, Heidi Doyle and her colleague Taralyn Cappellano sued the wrestler. Although Flair protested his innocence, the wrestling association WWE settled the matter out of court.
Promotional deal in jeopardy
If there was little attention in 2002 due to a less sensitized public, Flair now reaped the belated shit storm after the broadcast. How, was the broadcast of the “Carshield” commercial with flair at least paused. Flair’s colleague Tommy Dreamer (50), who played down the incident as a gag, also got headwinds on social media.
Ric Flair, who was born in Tennessee in 1949 under the name Richard Morgan Fliehr, started his career as a professional wrestler in 1972. His wedding was in the 80s, later there were various comebacks. After he last retired in 2012, he recently trained for a return to the ring. That should now have been done.
