The purpose of the series is to make visible the value of six archaeological sites in the country that for the most part had not been filmed for television until nowand explain your story from different perspectives: the ancient Cueva de las Manos, point from which the stories start; the representations embodied in the rock; the populations that made them and the archeology that today allows us to know and preserve them.

It is structured in four chapters of 28 minutes each, and through them, archaeologists and scientists reveal “cave walls and eaves from various places in Argentina where the traces of those who lived thousands of years ago remain. Engravings and paintings, negatives of hands, animal figures, human forms, abstract designs, are some of the cave art motifs that dialogue today with the present. The series shows them through a subjective camera that seeks to find them like the eye of an attentive viewer”, according to what was announced from the production of the series.
The rector of the UNRN, Anselmo Torres, stated that: “The audiovisual production of scientific content always needs a double effort: adjust the scientific narrative to achieve a better understanding of the most complex processes of science, very different from those of the industry of entertainment; and 9or the other hand: having high quality results and in times also very different from those of scientific research. This new series of the CPCA more than meets both objectives and is a very important contribution for the federal audiovisual production system and for the scientific dissemination generated within the Argentine university system“.

“This is a new production that the UNRN Audiovisual Content Center is making for Canal Encuentro, adding to the multiple projects that we have already carried out for different public channels. In this sense, it is remarkable the key role that national universities have in national audiovisual production, providing federal content that is based on scientific knowledge that are generated in the higher education institutions of our country”, said Marcos Del Bello, Undersecretary of Communication and Media of the UNRN. “Universities have, among other characteristics, the function of producing and disseminating knowledge, and in this task, many public institutions decided to venture into the production of audiovisual content. From the CPCA, we have been working hard to give visibility to the heritage and intellectual capital that is generated from Patagonia”, he added.
For its part, Matias Saccomannodirector of the CPCA mentioned thatIn February 2021, the director of Encuentro “invited us to participate in a meeting in which many producers from Patagonia participated and told us about the opening of the contest for the realization of a series of Rock Art. Then we began to work on the project with Marcos Del Bello”.

Saccomano recalled that José Luis Lanata, the director of the Research Institute on Cultural Diversity and Processes of Change of the UNRN and CONICET, put them in contact with Ana Eguerre and Carlos Aschero, who in turn contacted them with Dora Bassani, from the Identity Association. “She introduced us to the subject, she told us about the work carried out by Carlos Gradin, Ana Aguerre and Carlos Aschero on research, dissemination and conservation of this incredible heritage,” she remarked.
“It was an intense and collaborative work that was joined by the Rewilding Argentina Foundation, the Cueva de las Manos Provincial Park and several professionals who had already been related to the subject. This is the last audiovisual project approved by the rector Juan Carlos Del Bello , who at the time of signing the agreement with Canal Encuentro and the Ministry of Culture, stated and added that “This type of content not only enriches the national audience, but also reinforces the cultural industries of the different regions, and values the memory and history of the native peoples.”
