BTS: K-pop stars dance their way through the UN

You don’t see that every day: The K-Pop band BTS showed up at the UN General Assembly in New York.

A rather unusual collaboration has arisen between the Korean superstars BTS and the United Nations: The band attended the UN General Assembly in New York. The K-Pop group raised awareness of the perspectives of the younger generation with a speech.

In addition, BTS were appointed “Special Envoy” by the South Korean Prime Minister Moon Jae-in. For the UN’s YouTube channel, they promote its sustainability goals, such as ending poverty by 2030, preserving the planet and achieving equality.

“Generation Welcome” statt “Lost Generation”

Front man RM and his colleagues insisted that the younger generation be referred to as the “Lost Generation” due to the Covid situation on the planet. However, the opposite is the case, according to RM. This generation would have learned to face change with confidence. “We thought the world had stopped turning, but it just keeps on going. Every decision we make is the beginning of a change – and not an end,” said RM.

Dancing through the sacred halls

And that’s not all of the BTS-UN cooperation. the band shot in the empty, holy halls of the institution. In “Permission To Dance” the seven members sing and dance from the General Assembly Hall in front of the UN building. The video has already been viewed over 10 million times.

The 76th UN General Assembly started this week. In addition to climate protection, the main topics are the corona pandemic and developments in Afghanistan. Top politicians from all over the world are expected.

Incidentally, it was not BTS ‘first collaboration with the United Nations. As early as 2018, BTS gave a speech in the same room and presented a project for equal opportunities for the younger generation.
