The original notes of the song “We Are The World” with messages from world stars have changed hands for a steep price. But other valuable items from Rogers were also auctioned off.
Clothing, original photos, music trophies, even two cars: at the auction of a number of pieces from the estate of country singer Kenny Rogers, his original sheet music for the world hit “We Are The World” also went under the hammer. The four framed pages achieved the auction’s highest bid at $156,250, according to Julien’s website on Sunday.
In 1985, the song, written by Lionel Richie and Michael Jackson and produced by Quincy Jones – and starring Rogers alongside other world stars – raised more than $50 million for an Africa relief fund.
The notes are also special because of the signatures of several stars – in addition to Lionel Richie and Michael Jackson, Billy Joel, Cyndi Lauper, Tina Turner and Bruce Springsteen signed it at the time, with some personal messages for Rogers.
