Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt: What the War of the Roses is all about

The divorce was a long time ago, but Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt still have to do with each other – in court.

There is not much left of Hollywood’s former dream couple: For five years, the name “Brangelina” has dominated the headlines, especially with news that arose in court. And that although the divorce has been final since 2019.

Angelina Jolie (46) and Brad Pitt (57) are currently arguing in court about the supposedly illegal sale of Jolie’s shares in a joint property in France. It’s about millions – but that’s just a sideline. The real drama that still chains the two together despite the divorce is the fight for custody of the six children: Maddox (20), Pax (17), Zahara (16), Shiloh (15) and the twins Knox and Vivienne (13).

The initial situation: the incident in the private plane

Throwback: In September 2016, Jolie filed for divorce from Brad Pitt. She stated. An incident in the Hollywood couple’s private plane is said to have occurred five days earlier.

The accusation was in the room that Pitt was drunk and raped his then 15-year-old son Maddox. Pitt admitted yelling at the child in an argument but denied ever physically attacking him.

The domestic violence charges against Pitt were dropped in November 2016. Jolie had sole custody during the three weeks that the lawsuit was being examined. And she has not wanted to give that up since then. But Pitt demands more than just visiting rights.

The case has picked up speed again just this year. In May 2021, Pitt had finally reached his goal: private judge John Ouderkirk approved an extension of custody to the 50/50 rule.

Whether Jolie is about “the principle” or whether she really thinks her children have to protect against Pitt – she did not accept the verdict. Only a few weeks later, Jolie tried to recall the private judge Ourderkirk because she had doubts about his impartiality.

And she succeeded. An appeals court followed up on her application. This means that Ouderkirk’s judgment is also invalid – and Jolie has sole custody again.

The current status

Pitt does not want to put up with that. to challenge the verdict. Should that work, the decision on joint custody would become final again.

Millions are said to have flowed into this custody battle. And Jolie and Pitt would have the financial means to keep the dispute going for years.

But at what price? Maddox, the son, with whose dispute the whole misery once began, is no longer even part of the custody dispute: He is now 20 years old.
