England’s football idol David Beckham is grateful to the England women’s national team that his daughter has also enjoyed football.
England football icon David Beckham (47) is full of praise for the England women’s national team. “Thank you girls for inspiring my daughter and getting her to kick a ball with her dad again,” Beckham is quoted as saying by the Daily Mirror from a video eulogy at the Pride of Britain Awards. The women footballers will receive a special inspiration award for their victory at the Women’s Euro 2022 and for the impact they have on women’s football.
A whole generation inspired
He and his daughter Harper (11) followed the tournament on family vacation, he continues. “I want her to look up to inspiring people. And you inspired a whole generation, a new generation,” the ex-professional is convinced. “The many girls I saw playing soccer in the parks made my daughter want to play too,” he continues.
“It was an incredibly proud moment, especially as a former England captain, to see the girls bring the title home,” said Beckham. “I was proud, we were all proud because, as you all know, we tried many times to bring the title home but we didn’t make it,” he said, referring to his own career with the national team.
England’s women’s national team clinched the European title on July 31 after beating DFB-Frauen 2-1 in extra time.
