Christiane Paul: The Emmy “changed so much for me”

Christiane Paul used to doubt her work in front of the camera for a long time. The turning point came with the award of the Emmys.

Christiane Paul (47) is one of the most successful actresses in Germany. Nevertheless, the native of Berlin suffered for years from self-doubt and insecurity. Paul describes winning the Emmys in 2016 as a “game changer”. Through him, she found new motivation for her job, as she reveals in an interview with “ZEITmagazin”.

“I received this award because people on the jury who didn’t even know me saw and rated me, and they did so with an open mind and against large, international competition,” explains Paul. That strengthened her inside and “gave her back her faith in myself”. If it hadn’t come to this “turning point”, the actress “maybe” would have ended her career, she remembers.

Paul had long been unsure about her work in front of the camera. She was afraid of being “invisible” and even suffered from existential fears. Since she often did not know for a long time when the next offer was coming, she also accepted films “that one does not stand by one hundred percent so that one simply works”. “For me inside the situation was serious. The Emmy has changed so much for me. I suddenly knew: I might be able to do something,” said Paul.

He is your “solid emotional anchor”

The actress is also receiving support from her second husband, the physicist and climate scientist Prof. Anders Levermann (48). The two met in 2011 while working together for their book “Life is an eco-construction site”. They have officially been a couple since 2014, and in 2017 they said yes. “I am often long and far away from home. It is a special feeling to have a solid emotional anchor,” she enthuses in an interview with the magazine “Bunte”.

Paul also brought two children into the marriage, a daughter (born 2002) from a previous relationship and a son (born 2007) whom she and her first husband, the surgeon Prof. Dr. Wolfgang Schwenk, got. The two were married from 2006 to 2013.
