Mar del Plata International Film Festival: what the 37th edition will be like

At an event held at the Kirchner Cultural Center and was attended by the Minister of Culture, Tristan Bauer; the executive director of ANSES, Maria Fernanda Raventa; the head of the Cultural Institute of the Province of Buenos Aires, Florence Saintout; the vice-president, in exercise of the presidency, of INCAA, Nicholas Batlle; the coordinator of the INCAA National Cinematheque, Mariana Abram; the president of the Festival, Fernando Juan Limaand its artistic director, Paul Countthe screening of more than 180 films was announced.

Furthermore, ten years after the death of Leonard Faviothe edition will be dedicated to the great filmmaker, actor and singer, with the screening of three of his most representative works, such as John Moreira (1973), Dependent (1969), and Nazareno Cruz and the wolf (1975). Tribute will also be paid to the French director Jean-Luc Godardwho died on September 13 with an assisted suicide, and left an invaluable legacy.

At the opening of the festival will be screened Breathless (1960), his first feature film, and is also part of the Godard seul le cinéma program, the recent documentary by Cyril Leuty which, through interviews and archive images, reviews the almost seven decades and more than 120 works that make up the career of one of the great references of experimental and testimonial cinema.

The event will feature important international visitors, such as the North American director John McTiernanwho, in addition to receiving recognition for his career, will present his films Hard to Kill Y Predator; the french filmmaker Patricia Mazuy, accompanying an extensive retrospective of his work; the Spanish critic and editor Mark Uzalcurrent editor-in-chief of the magazine Cahiers du cinema and the Portuguese cinematographer Rui Pocasa prominent figure for his work with Joao Pedro Rodrigues, Miguel Gomes Y Lucrezia Martel in Zama.

These four visits, along with Lita StanticArgentine producer and director with a long history, will give the five Talks with teachers of this edition, forming a broad overview of the different disciplines of the seventh art.

To these stellar visits will be added two fundamental figures for Argentine cinema, whose prestige far exceeds our borders: Cecilia Roth Y Ricardo Darin.

The Festival will celebrate their trajectories as well as that of Paula Felix-Didiera researcher committed to the preservation of our audiovisual heritage, and that of a space that turns 70: the Cine Club Núcleo, one of the main meeting places for cinephiles in Buenos Aires.
