“I like what the Poxrucker Sisters are doing,” says Peter Chalupar. He is known to many as the singer of the vocal ensemble LALA – or as the dashing, dreadlocked “Beda mit Palme” who combines reggae with folk music. The Mühlviertler, who now lives in Wolfsegg/Hausruck with his wife and two daughters, took part in the Poxrucker Sisters’ SIE Challenge:

Four concerts, new song
The pop trio calls on choirs, ensembles and entire music bands to record their summer hit SIE and share it on social media. In his version, Beda transferred the song to three-four time: “This is the typical time for the waltz that women and men dance together,” says the 33-year-old. He finds it important that women are heard more, both in the music industry and in society. But he is also convinced that this goal can only be achieved together: “Equal rights for men and women require both sides.”
The musician is also very active outside of the SIE Challenge. With his three colleagues from the vocal ensemble LALA, Chalupar is planning four winter concerts in Vienna, Salzburg and Upper Austria. “We want to give a strong sign of life,” he says.
As Beda with Palme he has just released a new song with the rapper 1er Koda: “knecht hodrecht”. In it, the two denounce the spruce monocultures that are common in local forests. The song came about by accident. Several years ago, Beda performed the song at a live concert, the hip-hop artist heard it and added a rap passage. Then nothing happened for years until the two recorded the song. “The climate issue is very important to both of us,” says Beda. But the material is often bulky: “We want to bring a bit of fun into the song.” (hes)
