One of the main sources of income for the rapper Kanye West in recent years has been the sale of sneakers, which he managed together with sports manufacturer Adidas. But after anti-Semitic and generally questionable statements in recent weeks, Adidas has terminated its cooperation with the 45-year-old. Where does he go with his ideas for new sneaker designs? Kanye West immediately had an idea: he visited the headquarters of the American sneaker manufacturer Skechers.
Unfortunately, the appointment there didn’t go the way West had probably imagined. Because apparently the rapper hadn’t even made an appointment in advance with those responsible at Skechers, but simply trusted in his celebrity. The problem: After the failures of the recent past, West’s celebrity is poison for any kind of project – after all, there were reasons that, in addition to Adidas, Balenciaga and other companies ended their cooperation with him. And so apparently nobody at Skechers wanted to talk to him about a possible collaboration on sneakers. “We have no intention of working with West,” the shoe manufacturer said succinctly. They were also not pleased that West and his entourage filmed and photographed the brief visit to the company’s Los Angeles headquarters without permission.
And so the rapper happened what would have happened to any other uninvited visitor: After a short conversation that should not have lasted longer than five minutes, he was expelled from the house and escorted out of the building by security guards.
