She is the Queen of Halloween – Heidi Klum proved that again this year. The 49-year-old appeared as an earthworm at her party in New York. There was initially resistance to the costume.
After two years of the compulsory Corona break, Heidi Klum celebrated another huge Halloween party in New York. She disguised herself as a giant worm – but the spectacular costume almost never existed. For many years, Klum has worked with makeup artist Mike Marino and his team. They have already turned the model into comic book heroine Jessica Rabbit, a werewolf or Princess Fiona from the film “Shrek” for Halloween. But when Klum came up with the idea that Marino should turn her into a worm, he initially rejected it.
“He didn’t want to do it at first and kept encouraging me to come up with something new,” Klum told Vogue. But she persisted, after all, she worked on the costume idea for almost two years. “Once I’ve fallen in love with an idea, I don’t want to back down.”
She revealed to the US portal “Page Six” that she originally thought of disguising herself as a tree or plant. “Then I kind of went from plant to earthworm. I tried to think outside the box and come up with other things.”
In months of work, make-up artist Marino and a large number of colleagues finally created the finished costume. On her Instagram account, Heidi Klum shared a video showing what it looks like under the finished layers. According to this, the costume consisted of two foam parts: one is put over the head, and Klum climbed into the other with his legs. The individual skin layers were then applied from the outside and sprayed with paint.
Heidi Klum wore this under the worm costume
In the end, only the mouth and eyes remained uncovered. In addition, Heidi Klum wore yellow contact lenses. The entire transformation took more than ten hours, and the 49-year-old could only drink through a straw. To go to the bathroom, part of the costume had to be removed, as she told “Page Six”.
She could only move with tiny steps. “It’s hard for me to move. I don’t have arms or legs. If I fall, I need someone to help me back up. I’m kind of trapped. I feel a bit claustrophobic.”
Klum couldn’t stand it in her disguise the whole evening: In the end she celebrated in a transparent, glittering one-piece suit that she wore underneath – only the scary face mask she kept on. Still, she gushed about her worm costume: “I’d say it’s one of the best just because it’s so unusual and big and weird.”
