Valeria Gordeev wins the “Floriana 2022”

This first prize is endowed with 7000 euros. The 36-year-old from Tübingen convinced the jury with her “eloquent text that creates strong, mysterious images”. The text is about, among other things, a research institute dedicated to the preservation of Lenin’s body.

With her stylistically completely contrary text, Jessica Lind from Lower Austria won the second prize, which is endowed with 3,500 euros. In “Half a Feeling” the 34-year-old deals with the case of an underage boy who is accused of having crossed sexual boundaries. In addition to exclusion and prejudice, the author deals with the traumatic past of the mother.

The jury awarded the third prize (2000 euros) to the author Isabella Straub for her short story “Nitafurahi”, the sponsorship prize for authors from Upper Austria (1500 euros) went to Franziska Füchsl from Putzleinsdorf for the contribution “Denkt 1 Dodltopftropf”.

Nine in the final

There were a total of 135 submissions for the biennial award; seven authors from Austria, Germany, Switzerland and Italy qualified for the two-day reading competition at St. Florian Abbey. The next “Floriana” will take place in 2024, then with the generic term “music” – based on the 200th birthday of Anton Bruckner this year.
