This edition is dedicated to Leonard Favio on the tenth anniversary of his death, and for this reason “Juan Moreira” (1973), “El dependent” (1969), and “Nazareno Cruz y el lobo” (1975) will be screened.
Two months after his death, in addition, Mar del Plata pays tribute to the famous French filmmaker Jean-Luc Godard with his famous debut feature, “Breathless” (1960), chosen as the opening film of the festival and, in addition to this, as part of the tribute will be shown “Godard seul le cinema”, the recent documentary by Cyril Leuty that traces the life and work of more than 120 works by the French filmmaker through interviews and archive images.
Among the guests who will be part of the cycle of Talks with Teachers, without a doubt the most outstanding presence in terms of popularity is John McTiernandirector of two emblematic films that have already entered the category of action classics such as “Predator” (1987) and, above all, “Die Hard” (1988), with Bruce Willis.

Another of the axes that make up the 37th. edition is the special event “How long is a century? Silent cinema with live music”, which celebrates one hundred years of mythical films in screenings set to music by contemporary artists, where “Nosferatu” (FW Murnau) set to music by María Ezquiaga; “Häxan” (Benjamin Christensen), with soundscapes by the band Die Krabben; a program of short films by Lotte Reiniger and Germaine Dulac, set to music by Atacama – Ensemble of improvisers; and the recovered films of Renée Oro, accompanied live by the band Tremor.
Another of the outstanding retrospectives is the one dedicated to the actress and director Kinuyo Tanaka, of whom “The moon rises” and “Eternal breasts” will be screened, two of her most representative feature films as director, and films that had her as the protagonist of authors Featured as Kenji Mizoguchi, Heinosuke Gosho, Keisuke Kinoshita and Mikio Naruse.
There will also be a spotlight dedicated to the German filmmaker Heinz Emigholz, who will present to the public his last three feature films on the relationship between architecture and cinema. Finally, the VHS Generation section will present a spotlight dedicated to stainless British Comedies, which will include modern classics such as “Wanda’s Entanglements”, “Four Weddings and a Funeral” and “The Return of the Pink Panther”, along with the well-remembered “Funny Bones” and “Local Hero”, and Monty Python’s “And Now for Something Completely Different”.
Outdoor screenings are also back in Villa Victoria, in which the filmmakers and their casts will present the year’s major national premieres to the public, such as the aforementioned “Argentina, 1985” (Santiago Mitre), “30 nights with my ex ” (Adrián Suar), “The Substitute” (Diego Lerman), “The Red Ones” (Matías Lucchesi) and “The KEOP/S System” (Nicolás Goldbart).
Also in this edition will be the fifth edition of the Cinema and Gender Perspective Forum, and the Experimentation Workshop for film and acting students, by the director Ana Katz.
