Christa Maar (1939-2022) died this Friday (November 4) in Munich at the age of 83. Among other things, this was the “Focus” magazine from the publishing house Hubert Burda Media. In 2001, Maar founded the Felix Burda Foundation together with her ex-husband Hubert Burda (82), to whom she was married from 1967 to 1972. “The Board of Trustees and the Executive Board as well as the employees commemorate Christa Maar with great sadness and great respect and thanks for her services,” the report says.
Prevention work after a stroke of fate
The sub-foundation of the Hubert Burda Foundation is committed to the early detection of colon cancer. One of their best-known initiatives is the “Colon Cancer Month of March”. Maar and Burda founded the initiative after the death of their son Felix (1967-2001), who died of colon cancer.
Maar studied art history, worked as a screenwriter and director, and was the editor-in-chief of the art magazine “Pan” before becoming a pioneer in colorectal cancer prevention. In 2004, the “Network Against Colon Cancer eV” was founded, an association of doctors and scientists, which Maar headed as President. In 2005 she was awarded the Federal Cross of Merit, followed in 2011 by the Bavarian Order of Merit.
