It was one of the first public appearances of Duchess Catherine after her summer break and the 39-year-old had to take action right away. She visited the National Tennis Center in London, where she met the new star in the tennis universe: the only 18-year-old British girl Emma Raducanu.

As the first British woman in 44 years, Raducanu, who finished high school this year, won the US Open in mid-September against 19-year-old Leylah Fernandez. Since then, Raducanu has been celebrated in the UK. And the sportswoman also received congratulations from the royal family. “Unbelievable, we are all so proud of you,” William and Kate posted on Instagram after the finale. Now the Duchess has met the exceptional talent herself. The “Homecoming” event attended by Kate in the English capital was intended to honor the triumphs of British players this year and was hosted by the youth program of the English Tennis Association.
In addition to a small game on the square, Raducanu and Kate chatted lively. The Duchess is a passionate tennis player herself and attends Wimbledon every year as patron of the Lawn Tennis Association (LTA).

The youth program has made it its mission to make the advantages of sport attractive to young people. “Tennis is an incredible sport, it offers so many possibilities and is so much fun. It would be great if more children would pick up a racket and try it out. The LTA youth courses are the perfect introduction for everyone,” said Raducanu .
