The former “Spaceship Enterprise” star William Shatner (90) could soon fly into space. he becomes part of the second short trip of Blue Origin, the space company of Amazon founder Jeff Bezos (57). He had already dared a trip into space last July. The 15-minute flight with Shatner should take place in October and be recorded for a documentary. It is not yet known who will board the spaceship with him.
The space race has started
Bezos took off on July 20 with his spaceship, the “New Shepard”, and three other companions with a slight delay shortly after 3 p.m. from the desert in the west of the US state of Texas. The automated flight took around ten minutes. Bezos wore a blue space suit and a cowboy hat. Also on board were Bezos’ brother Mark (53), the 82-year-old former US pilot Wally Funk and an 18-year-old from the Netherlands. With his trip into space, Shatner would replace Funk as the oldest person in space.
The space company Blue Origin founded by Bezos made the trip into space a “historic moment in the history of space travel”. The British billionaire Richard Branson (71) was the first private individual to fly into space around ten days earlier.
Tesla boss Elon Musk (50) set another milestone on September 15. He only sent tourists into space with his SpaceX program. Bezos praised this contribution to the commercialization of space flights: “Congratulations to Elon Musk and the SpaceX team on the successful start of Inspiration4 last night. Another step towards making space accessible to everyone.”
