The sequel to the 2018 Marvel blockbuster, Black Panther, grossed more than $180 million when it released in North America alone. “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever” grossed an estimated $330 million worldwide over the weekend, US film portals “Variety” and “Hollywood Reporter” reported on Sunday. Director Ryan Coogler’s superhero flick has also started in Germany.

The current theatrical release is the second-best result this year, just behind the leader “Doctor Strange In The Multiverse Of Madness,” which opened in the US and Canada over a weekend in May with nearly $ 188 million.

With “Black Panther” Marvel Studios had one of their greatest successes in 2018. The blockbuster about the African king and superhero T’Challa with a predominantly black cast made a sensational 202 million dollars when it started in the US and ended up taking almost 1.4 billion dollars worldwide.

After the surprising death of “Black Panther” actor Chadwick Boseman from cancer in August 2020, director Coogler and Marvel Studio stuck to a sequel with many actors from the original film. Now, with actresses like Letitia Wright, Angela Bassett, Danai Gurira and Lupita Nyong’o, strong female characters from Wakanda take center stage.
