Buenos Aires Theater Complex announced season and reopening of Alvear

Ricardes assured that the programming will not be reduced to listing works but to the “More Action Program” which is made up of three axes: making public theater that others do not do, especially the classics or themes that require a protected area such as the official one; contribute to the development not only of emerging artists but established ones who “many times need a space”, and finally take into account the diverse spectators of its six theaters: San Martín, Sarmiento, De la Ribera, Regio, Presidente Alvear and Cine Teatro La Silver. This is a summary of what will be seen next year:

San Martin Theater

Mariano Pensotti (“El público”) will premiere “Los años”, which stages the life of the same person at 30 and 60, simultaneously. With Mara Bestelli and Marcelo Subiotto, among others.

Mariano Tenconi Blanco will launch “Las ciencias naturales”, the second part of The European Saga, the tetralogy started with the excellent “Las cautivas” in which he intends to look at the origins of Argentina from literature. With Agustín Rittano and Juan Isola.

Luciano Suardi (he acted in “Blood Wedding”) directs Eugene O’Neill’s “Long Day’s Journey Towards Night”, starring Arturo Puig and Selva Alemán; Julio Panno will stage “El testamento de María”, by the Irishman Colm Tobin, with Eleonora Wexler as a mother torn by the pain of the violent death of her son.

“Lady in Red on a Gray Background”, based on the novel by Miguel Delibes, will be directed by José Sacristán, while “A Moonless Night”, by Lorca, will be directed by Juan Diego Botto. “Everything next to me?” It will be seen again ten years after its premiere, represented by more than 300 actresses in ten languages. Directed by Fernando Rubio.

The Puppeteer Group will do a version of “Thumbelina” while they will present for adults the premiere of “The Caregiver” by Emiliano Dionisi, about an old man whose caregiver keeps him awake so he doesn’t forget who he is. Eva Halac will direct “Alice in the theater of wonders.”

Sarmiento Theater

Gonzalo Demaría (“Tarascones”, “Siglo de oro trans”, “La comedia es peligro”) translated and adapted “Cyrano”, by Edmond Rostand, which will star Gabriel Goity, directed by Willy Landin, while it will be possible to see “Burgesa ”, a version of “The bourgeois gentleman” by Molière by Alfredo Allende that takes place in Ramos Mejía during the 1960s. Federico León (“I write, you draw”) directs “Los tiempos” from fragments of all his previous works. Gabriel Chame Buendía returns to the Shakespearean repertoire after his remarkable version of “Othello”, now with “Measure for Measure”.

Royal Theater

Javier Daulte (“Witness light”, “The irresponsibles”) and Mariano Stolkiner (“Rota”) will direct “Carnicera”, which takes place in a slaughterhouse, with a mysterious presence and the worker forced to take sides between two sides. Demaría also wrote “Elsa Tiro”, which will be directed by Luciano Cáceres and revolves around Eugene O’Neill during his stay at La Boca. A story that crosses those days of the playwright with the appearance of the first porn film in the country. With Cáceres, Alejandra Radano and Josefina Caglione.

Riverside Theater

The life of Benito Quinquela Martín will be represented in a musical starring Carlos Casella, in the theater that the artist donated for the residents of La Boca.

Alvear Theater

“Edmond” will be seen, about the life of the creator of Cyrano, Edmond Rostand, through a multi-award-winning production directed by Alexis Michalik, with Miguel Angel Rodríguez, Felipe Colombo and Vanesa González. Elena Tritek will direct “Manada de lobos”, a free version of Ibsen’s “Mrs. Inger de Ostrot”, an unpublished piece by the Norwegian playwright that will have art design by Eugenio Zanetti.

Cinema Theater El Plata

Alfredo Sanzol’s “La ternura” debuts, trained in Madrid in 2017 with nods to Shakespeare, change of identity and magical beings. Ariel Calderón will direct “Waiting for the float” by Jacobo Langsner with a cast from the National Comedy of Uruguay.

Of the emergent, “Qué de magnifico tiene ser yo” by Liliana Viola, directed by Julieta Asacar, stands out about a woman in her bed who transmits sensations and puts her psyche on stage. “On the Kindness of Strangers,” an adaptation of Tennessee Williams’ “A Streetcar Named Desire” by Alejandro Radawski. Alejandro Tantanian directs “Eduardo II”, a tragedy about sex, power, the body and sin in the Middle Ages, rarely represented in Buenos Aires. “Doctor Fausto” by Christopher Marlowe will be offered in co-production with the National Comedy of Uruguay and San Martín.

In dance they presented “I feel you”, by Constanza Macras; “Follia” by Mourad Merzouki; Stephanie Lakey’s “Colossus”; “Mobius” by Compañía XY and “Hondo” by Gustavo Lesgart and Inés Sanguinetti.
