Music and film streaming only via WiFi? Those days seem to be over. According to Telefónica Deutschland, data consumption in Germany continues to rise.
The data consumption of cell phone users in Germany is increasing all the time.
The telecommunications company Telefónica Deutschland announced on Monday that around one billion gigabytes of data volume had been transported over the O2 network in the first half of 2021. That was about 50 percent more than in the same period last year. In previous years, the percentage growth was similarly strong.
The main reason for the increase: More and more people are using video or music streaming on their smartphones, even if they are not connected to WiFi at home. “Our customers are booking ever larger data packages in order to use their digital applications on the go,” said Telefónica Germany boss Markus Haas. The new 5G mobile communications standard will continue to spur data growth.
The 5th generation of mobile communications (5G) enables much faster downloads and smooth transmission even in places with a large audience – this makes using mobile phones more convenient for consumers. New 5G applications – for example from the area of ”virtual reality” – also have a high data requirement.
