This year’s MTV Europe Music Awards (short: MTV EMA) were presented in Düsseldorf. The show was hosted by British singer Rita Ora and New Zealand film director and comedian Taika Waititi. Ora herself received an award for her personal style.

The winner of the night was definitely Taylor Swift. The US singer scooped up award after award at the MTV EMAs – winning in the categories of best artist, best video, best pop and best long version of a video. With that she overtook her colleague Harry Styles. The Briton had been nominated in a total of seven categories. However, he only won the trophy for Best Live Act. Swift was nominated for six awards.

As in the previous year, the rapper Badmómzjay was honored as the best German act. She was nominated for the award alongside musicians Kontra K, Giant Rooks, Leony and Nina Chuba. “I feel very bad because we made history: Second time in a row, that’s definitely great,” said the German Press Agency. “I am very happy that my whole family is here and that we are experiencing this moment together.” Rap colleague Loredana won the award for best Swiss act.
