Huntercombe prison near Oxford is not only the last stop before deportation for Boris Becker. How are the inmates there? And what happens after their release? The aid organization “Asylum Welcome” works in Huntercombe – and knows about the problems there.
The news briefly dominated the media this week: Rumor has it that Boris Becker could be deported to Germany before Christmas. The former tennis star, who was sentenced to two and a half years in prison for bankruptcy offences, has been in Great Britain since the end of April. In May he was transferred from Wandsworth maximum security prison in London to Huntercombe, a lower-security male prison in Oxford County. The prison is a good hour’s drive west of Becker’s former home in London and is one of only three penal institutions in the country in which only foreigners are held.
