The highly anticipated sequel to James Cameron of his 2009 sci-fi epic will hit theaters nationwide on December 16, the same date the film will be released in other territories. It will be screened in regular theaters and Imax.
The first Avatar currently stands as the highest grossing movie of all time. Of its massive $2.74 billion in ticket sales, approximately $202 million of that total came from China during its initial theatrical release and subsequent re-release in 2021.
With “El Camino del Agua” now officially scheduled to hit theaters in China, the sequel can hope to benefit fans of the first film. Meanwhile, director Cameron has boasted that the financial burden is even greater, stating that a “break-even” point could not be achieved unless the film became the “fourth or fifth highest-grossing film ever”. . With a huge budget to recoup and a third franchise entry already on the way, the movie will need all the ticket sales it can get.
