The writers spoke with Vanity Fair about what she went through to find her new Homer. “[Burton] I wanted the silhouette to look more like the cartoons of Charles Addams, which is Homer shorter than Morticia, compared to the suave version of Raul Julia in the movies,” Gough said.
The creators approached Burton because they felt his sensibilities would match the show. They were surprised by how quickly he responded.
“The ambition of the show was to make it an 8-hour Tim Burton movie,” Millar said of the possibility of working with Burton.
