Will Smith spoke about who rejects his return after the Oscars incident

“I totally get it: if someone isn’t ready, I would absolutely respect them and allow them their space to not be ready.”Smith told the reporter kevin mccarthy when asked what he would say to moviegoers who aren’t ready for his comeback. “My biggest concern is my team: Antoine has done what I think is the best job of his entire career. The people on this team have done some of the best work of his entire career, and my deepest hope is that my actions will not penalize my team. Right now, that’s what I’m working for.”

Added Smith: “I hope the material, the power of the film, the timing of the story, I hope the good that can be done will open people’s hearts at the very least to see, recognize and support the amazing artists in and around of this movie.”

emancipation is based on a true story and stars Smith as a runaway slave named Peter, better known to the world as “Whipped Peter” after photographs of keloid scars on his back were circulated to show the brutality of slavery. The film follows Peter as he navigates the Louisiana swamps to escape the plantation owners who nearly kill him.
