Michael Michalsky: “The jury has become stronger overall”

“Supertalent” juror Michael Michalsky talks about Dieter Bohlen’s demise and reveals what he appreciates about the new jury constellation.

Designer Michael Michalsky (54) will celebrate its premiere on October 2nd as the “Supertalent” judge (8:15 pm on RTL or via). In an interview with the news agency spot on news, the former “GNTM” juror speaks about the departure of Dieter Bohlen (67) and how his departure changed the RTL talent show. He also reveals what he values about his colleagues, Chantal Janzen (42) and the Ehrlich Brothers, and which casting appearance particularly impressed him.

Why did you feel like becoming a “super talent” juror?

Michael Michalsky: The concept of the show was further developed and I like the variety of topics. In addition, after the first meeting I found the “Supertalent” team to be very professional and personable.

What are the biggest differences compared to your jury work for “Germany’s Next Top Model”?

Michalsky: The jury is more diverse and therefore there are more interesting decisions. As a juror for “Das Supertalent” you get the impression that your own opinion counts more. That is good and contributes to the value of the shipment.

Were you glad that Dieter Bohlen is no longer there or would you have liked to sit next to him?

Michalsky: I’ve known Dieter for ages and he did it successfully for many years. So it would have been funny to have him on the jury.

What is your impression, how has the “Supertalent” jury changed after his departure?

Michalsky: The jury has become stronger overall. I like that.

The jury was once again mixed up with positive corona tests. How did you experience Lukas Podolski’s involuntary break?

Michalsky: That was of course very unfortunate. The broadcaster reacted very quickly and professionally. I wished Poldi all the best.

What do you appreciate about working with Chantal Janzen and the Ehrlich Brothers, do you always agree on the talents or are there discussions?

Michalsky: Chantal is a TV professional, always very clear in her opinion, I think that’s good. “The Brothers” often bring a different perspective to the rating. Also enriching. My impression is that the jury in the current line-up is a stroke of luck.

Rigorous or easy to impress – what role do you play?

Michalsky: Rather “strict”. I want to see and reward honest and exceptional achievements. This always requires a lot of hard work on the part of the participants. At least with those who take their cause seriously. I think that’s good then.

Among other things, Sophia Thomalla took a seat next to you as a guest juror. How did you experience it?

Michalsky: I thought it was great that Sophia was there. Of course, it was also a lot of fun, precisely because we’ve known each other for so long.

Which performance has impressed you the most so far?

Michalsky: The 12-year-old girl who belted out operatic arias as if she were Maria Callas. I got goose bumps.

Some appearances move many jurors to tears at “Das Supertalent”. Do you also show feelings?

Michalsky: You sit very close, you see how the candidate struggles and strains. How they put all their heart and soul into one performance. That also affects the jurors, of course.

What is important to you during the appearances, as a designer do you also pay attention to visual details?

Michalsky: I automatically rate the style, the outfit, the choreography. It’s just built into me as a designer. I notice immediately if the look bothers me. Then the overall concept doesn’t fit.

What hidden talent do you have?

Michalsky: It’s definitely not singing (laughs).
