In a separate statement, Glastonbury co-organizer, Emily Eavissaid: “I am delighted to inform you that the one and only Elton John will be making his first Glastonbury appearance, headlining the Pyramid Stage on Sunday night next year.
“This will be the last UK show of Elton’s final tour, so we’re closing the Festival and marking this great moment in our stories with the mother of all goodbyes.”.
Later, John said in his own message that “I couldn’t be more excited to headline the biggest festival in the world” next European summer.
He continued: “I talk to new artists on my radio show every week and Glastonbury is often cited as a pivotal moment in launching their careers – the festival’s genuine and enthusiastic support for the best emerging talent is something I’ve admired for a long time.
“Thank you for inviting me to Emily Eavis for my last show in the UK, it’s going to be emotional.”
No other acts have yet been confirmed for Glastonbury ’23. The eFestivals lineup page currently lists Arctic Monkeys Y Harry Styles as the two remaining rumored headliners. The first wave of artists traditionally arrives around March.
