In her job she has met almost every celebrity. Now Katie Couric unpacks an autobiography about the most defining moments of her career – and reveals what she experienced with the Royals.
When Katie Couric’s autobiography “Going There” appears at the end of October, some celebrities will probably get nervous. Because as a presenter and talk show host, Couric met them all.
Katie Couric met Prince Harry and Prince Andrew
In 2012, the American met Prince Harry, then 27, on the sidelines of a polo game. Lady Diana’s son – now a great benefactor and father of a family – was going through his wildest phase. Just a few months after the interview with Couric, the press released photos of the naked prince playing “strip billiards” in Las Vegas. As the “Daily Mail” could read in Couric’s manuscript, the presenter reveals that the smell of alcohol and cigarettes poured out of “every pore of his body”.
In the conversation she met Harry as a very warm-hearted person. “We got to know the warm and personal side when we talked about what his grandmother means to him,” she writes. In addition, the prince told her that he really wanted to start a family and have children of his own. “I’m waiting to find the right person and someone who is ready to take on this task,” Harry is said to have said at the time.
A house like from “Eyes Wide Shut”
But not only Prince Harry gets his fat off in “Going There”. Because Couric also met his uncle, Prince Andrew, in 2010, but not anywhere, but in Jeffrey Epstein’s townhouse in New York, of all places. Couric doesn’t know why she was invited there, but she has a clue. “I couldn’t imagine what Epstein and Andrew were up to, other than trying to make friends in the media. In hindsight, they must have figured they would need them when the pedophilia allegations came up,” she writes.
The presenter describes the luxury townhouse Epstein as “Eyes Wide Shut with a twist – creepy chandeliers and body part art”. In the cult film by Stanley Kubrick, Tom Cruise falls into the clutches of a strange cult. Woody Allen and his wife Soon-Yi Previn were among the guests.
On leaving the party, she and her boyfriend at the time noticed how young the women who had attended the dinner were.
