The kingdom is shocked and appalled by the Netflix documentary “Harry & Meghan”. As early politicians call for Prince Harry to be stripped of his royal titles, the palace is concerned that the week ahead could only get worse.
Although only three of the six episodes of the Neftlix series “Harry & Meghan” have been published, the damage in Prince Harry’s homeland is already enormous – at least that’s what the reactions in the British press suggest. There is sheer horror at the content of the documentary, which is mockingly referred to as “Megflix” in some media.
There are two things in particular that sour in the kingdom. On the one hand, it is not well received that Meghan pulls the court ceremony through the cocoa. It was like in the Middle Ages, “dinner and tournament,” says the US actress at one point and imitates the bow to the queen with an exaggerated gesture. On the other hand, many observers don’t like the fact that the Commonwealth, the voluntary association of 56 former British colonies, is referred to in the documentary as “Empire 2.0”.
The British daily newspaper “The Sun” quotes Tory MP Bob Seely as calling for Harry to be stripped of his royal rank. “Why should we allow him to keep his titles when he hates his country and the monarchy so much?”
“Harry & Meghan”: irritation in the kingdom
The effect of the three episodes on the royal family should be similarly devastating. See the content as an insidious attack on the monarchy. According to a palace insider, heir to the throne Prince William is said to be sad that Harry speaks of a great distance between the brothers, when they “were so close for so many years”.
Also, Harry and Meghan would not have taken it very seriously at a crucial point. The opening credits state: “Members of the royal family declined to comment on the content of the series.” But according to People magazine, multiple palace sources claim no one in the royal family has been asked to comment on the plot of the series.
The tablecloth appears to have been cut up for good. From the perspective of the royal family, it could be even worse: the royal family should already be worried about next Thursday when the last three episodes will appear on Netflix. The palace fears that “next week will be poison”.
