Water is his element: When director James Cameron dives, he comes to himself.
Canadian director James Cameron (“Titanic”, “Avatar”) has a deep connection to diving. “When I dive in the sea, it’s like coming home for me,” the 68-year-old told the “Spiegel”. “The sea is my church! Crazy: I dive into a dangerous world that could kill me – but I become the most tame person in the world.”
For his new “Avatar” film, Cameron taught actresses Kate Winslet and Sigourney Weaver in Hawaii to dive without an oxygen tank. “There’s no need to be afraid, it’s not about physical ability, it’s a mental thing, like meditation,” said the director. The German cinema release of “Avatar: The Way of Water” is on December 14th.
