Royals: 70th anniversary of the throne: Queen and Prince Charles plant red beech

Almost 70 years ago, Queen Elizabeth II ascended the throne. Numerous celebrations and events are planned across the country in honor of this platinum anniversary. The Queen gave the starting shot herself.

Together with her son Prince Charles (72), Queen Elizabeth II (95) planted a tree and thus gave the starting signal for a nationwide campaign to mark the 70th anniversary of her reign.

“Let’s hope he survives,” joked the heir to the throne on Friday at the Scottish Queen’s residence at Balmoral Castle. Mother and son received support from children from a nearby primary school.

The European beech is a contribution to the program The Queen’s Green Canopy (in German, for example: the Queen’s green canopy), which is intended to leave a “lasting legacy” and for which people across the country are to start their own tree-planting projects.

On February 6, 2022, it will be 70 years since Elizabeth became Queen. Celebrations and events in honor of this platinum anniversary are planned throughout the year. The Queen is the first British monarch to hold office for that long.
