Therapist clarifies: why do so many couples fight at Christmas?

Christmas is the Celebration of Love. But why do couples fight then? A psychotherapist explains. And he gives tips on how to avoid arguments and crises on the holidays.

Man and house are decked out for Christmas, the celebration of love. But instead of love, there’s a fight. This is the experience many have in relationships over the holidays. According to a recent study by the dating agency Parship, every third person argues with their better half at Christmas time. Why is that?

“Christmas is associated with very high expectations. Christmas must be the best time of the year,” says psychotherapist and author Wolfgang Krüger. “That might have been true in the Middle Ages, when there was only real food to eat at Christmas.”
