Hollywood mourns the loss of cult director Richard Donner. He died today, Monday (July 5th) at the age of 91. This was confirmed by his wife, film producer Lauren Schuler Donner (72). So far nothing is known about the cause of death.
Donner was mainly in the 70s and 80s through films such as “Superman” with Christopher Reeve (1952-2004), the children’s adventure flick “The Goonies” and the action film “Lethal Weapon” with Mel Gibson ( 65) and Danny Glover (74) successfully starred.
Breakthrough with “Superman”
Born on April 24, 1930 in New York, Donner directed his career mainly for TV films. In 1976 he made his cinema debut with “Das Omen”. His breakthrough came in 1978 with “Superman”. The flick grossed $ 300 million worldwide on a budget of $ 55 million. Most recently Donner was responsible for “16 Blocks” with Bruce Willis (66).
