Nutrition: Anke Engelke thinks meat substitute products are “totally silly”

The entertainer lives vegan. She doesn’t put anything animal on the table, not even cheese. She also doesn’t believe in meat substitutes.

The entertainer Anke Engelke (55) finds meat substitute products for vegans “totally silly”. “Vegetables are vegetables and bacon is bacon,” said the vegan comedian and presenter in the “Talk with K” podcast from “Kölner Stadt-Anzeiger”.

“I find that difficult because people (…) are led to believe that you actually need meat.” She also said about vegan cheese: “That doesn’t work.” As a vegan, she gets along well, said Engelke – because she does not see it as a prohibitive construct, but as a “decision with full awareness”.

Vegans do not eat any animal products, vegetarians do eat dairy products such as cheese. Recently, products that taste like sausage or meat but are plant-based have become increasingly fashionable.
