Daniel Craig is retiring after 15 years as Bond. Now he has revealed that he could imagine the German soccer coach Jürgen Klopp in his place as 007.
After two years of delay, the new James Bond with “No Time to Die” has been in German cinemas since September 30th. For the British Daniel Craig, 53, it is a personal farewell in the role of 007. Will he, as Bond, now also have the burden of having to save the cinema after the long corona break? “I hope that ‘Bond’ will have a positive effect, that we can strengthen the film industry and bring people back to the cinemas,” he said in an interview with “Welt am Sonntag”. “Because the cinema is the reason why I became an actor in the first place.”
Since he inherited the role of 007 from Pierce Brosnan, 68, the MI6 agent with the license to kill has undergone a significant development. Suddenly Bond showed emotion – a fact that was very dear to Craig’s heart: “He’s basically an honorable person, but he hides it all behind a heavy armor. That’s what got me so interested in the role – I tried to find out who is behind this armor. I wanted to show the cracks and small scratches in this armor. I wanted to make James Bond as complex and real as possible. “
Daniel Craig advocates male Bond
At least as hot as Craig’s farewell as Bond is being discussed these days who could succeed him. He himself recently said that in his eyes Bond should remain a man – and that “there simply has to be more larger, comparable roles for women than for people of other skin color”.
The fact that this addition was often left out of the reporting annoys Craig: “I’m pissed off about it, really. Because it’s the right topic. It’s just being talked about in the wrong way. Bond is Bond. And that’s a good thing. […] So I didn’t mean to say that a woman couldn’t play James Bond. Of course, a woman could play James Bond. One woman could do anything. But that’s not the debate that’s actually at stake. “
And then he brings up an unusual, potential successor himself. When asked whether – in the tradition of German villains – the quick-tempered Liverpool coach Jürgen Klopp, 54, would be a good Bond opponent, the ardent Liverpool fan Craig replied: “Jürgen Klopp would be a great James Bond.”
See in the video: James Bond actor Daniel Craig can be seen one last time as a 007 agent in his new film “No Time to Die”. In the RTL interview with Frauke Ludowig, Craig talks about his difficult start as James Bond and his well-earned agent pension.
