A little over 20 seconds later, the camera pans to reveal Christopher McQuarriewho returns to the series “Mission Impossible” to direct “Dead Reckoning.” McQuarrie also wrote “Top Gun: Maverick” and produced the action film alongside Cruise and David Ellison.
McQuarrie also thanks fans of the “Top Gun” franchise before turning his focus back to Cruise: “Hey, listen, we really have to shoot. We have to do this shot.”
Cruise smiles, nonchalantly points a finger at McQuarrie before quickly jumping out of the plane, presumably along with a cameraman. With his entire body stretched out in a starfish position to resist air resistance, Cruise turns his attention back to the camera and resumes his speech.
“As always, thank you for allowing us to entertain you. It truly is the honor of a lifetime. I’m running out of altitude so I have to get back to work. We have to do this take. Have a very safe and happy holiday. See you at the movies,” Cruise concludes, before being swept away by a gust of wind out to sea.
