At “Bachelorette” and “Bachelor in Paradise” the audience knew Philipp Stehler as a well-trained mother-in-law’s favorite who mostly seemed in a good mood. The former police officer has now shown a different side of himself on Instagram.
Because what Stehler has so far only hinted at in a few posts: He suffered for years from the consequences of ulcerative colitis, a chronic inflammation of the intestine.

He even had to wear an artificial anus for a little over a year. “On September 22nd, 2020 my artificial anus was removed again,” he writes on Instagram about a picture of himself with a pouch on his right upper abdomen. “For some of you, the picture above will explain my behavior over the past few years, and others are certainly shocked because you didn’t expect it,” he explains.
“I suffered from ulcerative colitis for many years and the artificial anus saved my life! I have learned a lot about myself and life in recent years. I took some of you along with me via Instagram as well as I could. Don’t take it from me It’s bad if I don’t hide anything anymore “, writes the influencer honestly. “For me, an artificial anus was new, unknown, mentally and physically a burden,” says Stehler.
Book about illness
In a book entitled “My gut is not an ass”, the reality TV star wrote down his ordeal and linked his own story with tips and advice for those affected. In ulcerative colitis, the colon is chronically inflamed. The disease progresses in a relapsing manner and often results in hospital stays.
Stehler has one more request for his followers: “Many people fight their fights in silence, which you don’t notice. Therefore, be nice to everyone and respect each other,” writes the 33-year-old.
