Ludwig again defended stricter Viennese measures

The pandemic is not over yet, especially the delta variant could cause bottlenecks in intensive care beds again, he warned in a joint press conference with Michael Binder, the medical director of the health association, and the head of the department for respiratory and lung diseases in the clinic Penzing, Sylvia Hartl.

Although many people in Vienna have already been vaccinated, the proportion of people who have not yet been vaccinated is also high, Ludwig pointed out. Protecting children also means that they are less likely to infect adults. The measures prescribed in Vienna are justifiable, they are intended to prevent serious interventions – such as lockdowns – from having to occur again later. “I do not want to put up with the accusation in autumn that politics was asleep,” said the mayor.

In Vienna, the 3-G rule also applies to children from the age of six – and not only from the age of twelve as stipulated in the federal ordinance. This means that even younger kids have to provide proof in summer if they want to visit a pub or an outdoor swimming pool, for example.

Since vaccinations are not yet carried out at this age and children are rarely among those who have recovered, this usually means submitting a corona test. Vienna recently tightened the rules here as well. The so-called living room tests are no longer considered entry tests. We recommend using the PCR tests that are offered in the federal capital as part of the “Alles Gurgelt” campaign.
