In her new book, Emily Ratajkowski explains that Robin Thicke sexually molested her on the set of “Blurred Lines”. Fans and critics were reminded of the problems of the song.
In her new biography “My Body”, Emily Ratajkowski describes how musician Robin Thicke allegedly molested her on the set of “Blurred Lines”. “Suddenly, out of nowhere, I felt the coolness and strangeness of the hands of a stranger that were holding my bare breasts from behind,” she writes, according to the Sunday Times report.
Emily Ratajkowski reports sexual harassment
Director Diane Martel testified to Ratajkowski’s report. “I remember the moment when he grabbed her breasts,” she told the Sunday Times. “One in each hand. He was behind her when they were both in profile. I yelled in my very aggressive Brooklyn voice, ‘What the hell are you doing, that’s it! The shoot is over!'”
The new allegations bring back memories of “Blurred Lines”. The song by Thicke and Pharrell Williams stayed at number one on the Billboard Top 100 charts for twelve weeks. How problematic not only the sexist video, but the song itself is, did not understand the general public until a few years after the global success. Today Williams even says he’s ashamed of his involvement in the song.
“Blurred Lines” Critique
Among other things, the song line “I know you want it”, sung by a man, glorifying rape, so critical voices. Together with the title and chorus, “Blurred Lines”, the picture makes even more sense: a man wants sex, the woman doesn’t. He tries to convince them that the borders are blurred, “blurred”. “I realized that we live in a chauvinistic culture in our country. I wasn’t aware of that. And I had to realize that some of my songs pick up on this chauvinism. That woke me up,” said Williams in “GQ Magazine” .
Ratajkowski, who danced half-naked around Thicke in the video, also criticized the production a few years ago. “I wasn’t at all enthusiastic about the idea at first. I think I looked a bit annoyed in the video. Now it’s the bane of my existence,” she told InStyle. At the time, she did not reveal that she was allegedly molested on the set.
After the “Sunday Times” published Ratajkowski’s allegations, the hashtag #BlurredLines trended in the USA. “I’ll say it now: #BlurredLines is the most sexist song that came out in 2013 and the worst song of the 2010s,” tweeted one user. “But let’s be honest, are we surprised that a sexual assault happened on the set for the video of the rape hymn #blurredlines? Robin Thicke made it very clear what he thinks about women,” wrote another user.
Robin Thicke has not yet commented on Ratajkowski’s allegations.
