After more than 37 years, the Danish bed warehouse in Germany changes its name. The company would like to appear more cohesive internationally.
In autumn, the Danish bed warehouse changes its name in Germany to Jysk. In 1979 the company was founded under this name in Denmark. At that time, the first Jysk store was opened in Aarhus, Denmark’s second largest city. Since then, Jysk has grown far beyond the Danish borders and, with currently around 3,000 stores in 51 countries, has developed into one of the largest international companies in the world in the field of sleeping and living.
With the name Jysk, the company now wants to underline its global size and Scandinavian roots in Germany as well. “We are a value-oriented company and our self-image is based on Scandinavian values such as honesty and respect – both in dealing with our customers and with one another,” the company wrote on its website.
Danish bed camp is called “Jysk” – what does the word mean?
The word “Jysk” originally means that something or someone comes from the Danish Jutland peninsula. If you come from Jutland, then you are “Jysk”. Since the people of Jutland are known to be hardworking, down-to-earth and reliable, the company named itself this word in 1979. With reference to Germany, the company explains: “And even if the word Jysk originated in Denmark, all Jysk employees share and live the values it stands for, no matter in which part of the world they work”.
